Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters to us. This policy explains what information PaySlice collects, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data.
Last updated: August 2026
1. Who We Are
PaySlice is an independent mobile application built and operated by its sole developer, based in India. There is no parent company, no investor, and no advertising business behind it.
For the purposes of data-protection law, the operator of PaySlice is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us at privacy@payslice.app for anything relating to your data, or support@payslice.app for general help.
2. Information We Collect
When you create a PaySlice account and use our service, we collect the following information:
- Account information: your name, email address, and country/currency preference.
- Expense data: descriptions, amounts, currencies, categories, participant lists, and split details that you enter into the app.
- Profile picture: an avatar you may choose inside the app. Avatars are generated from your account ID — PaySlice does not access your camera or photo library, and no images are uploaded from your device.
- Usage data: timestamps of actions, app interactions, and activity logs used to power the activity feed.
Contacts (optional): If — and only if — you choose "From Contacts" on the Add Friends screen and grant permission, PaySlice reads the names, email addresses and phone numbers stored in your device's address book so it can show you which of your contacts already use PaySlice.
What happens to that data: the email addresses of contacts who have one are sent to our servers to be checked against our directory of existing PaySlice users. We do not store your contacts, we do not store the results of that check, and we never contact anyone in your address book. Contact names and phone numbers stay on your device. You can decline this permission and still use every part of PaySlice — friends can always be added by typing their email address instead.
We do not collect payment card numbers or bank account credentials. PaySlice records who owes whom but does not process actual money transfers.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to provide and improve the PaySlice service:
- To create and maintain your account.
- To calculate and display shared expense balances between you and your friends or group members.
- To show you a real-time activity feed of expense events involving you.
- To convert currencies using live exchange rates (via the Frankfurter API) at settlement time.
- To allow friends you add to see your display name and profile photo within the app.
We do not use your data for advertising, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell it.
4. Legal Bases for Processing
If you are in the UK, the European Economic Area, or another region with similar law, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract — to create your account, store your expenses, and calculate balances. Without this we cannot provide the service you signed up for.
- Consent — for optional features you switch on yourself, most notably reading your device contacts. You can withdraw this at any time in your device settings, and the rest of the app continues to work.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and fix faults, balanced against your rights.
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose information to comply with the law.
5. Third-Party Services
PaySlice is built on the following third-party platforms, each with their own privacy policies:
- Firebase Authentication (Google LLC) — used to authenticate your account via email/password or Google Sign-In.
- Cloud Firestore (Google LLC) — used to store expense, group, and user data in real time.
- Frankfurter API — a free, open exchange-rate API used to fetch live currency conversion rates. No personal data is sent to this service.
- Cloudflare, Inc. — hosts the payslice.app website and provides its security and delivery layer.
We do not use advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or third-party trackers inside the app.
We encourage you to review Google's Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
6. International Data Transfers
PaySlice data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure operated by Google LLC, and the website is delivered through Cloudflare's global network. This means your information may be processed on servers outside the country you live in, including the United States.
Where data is transferred out of the UK or European Economic Area, our providers rely on recognised safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses. You can ask us for more detail at privacy@payslice.app.
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information to third parties, and we have not done so in the preceding twelve months.
Your display name, profile photo, and email address are visible to other PaySlice users who have added you as a friend or share a group with you. Expense details are visible to all participants of that expense or group.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from inside the app: Profile → Account settings → Delete account. Upon deletion:
- Your user profile document is removed from our database.
- Expense records that include you as a participant may retain a reference to your user ID for historical accuracy but your personal details will no longer be associated. This is deliberate — removing your half of a shared bill would silently change what other people owe each other.
If you wish to request a full data export or deletion, contact us at privacy@payslice.app from the email address on your account.
9. Your Privacy Rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, or delete it. Email privacy@payslice.app from the address on your account and we will act on it.
If you are in the UK or European Economic Area, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Have inaccurate data corrected.
- Have your data erased ("right to be forgotten"), subject to the shared-expense limitation described in section 8.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Receive your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, to request its deletion or correction, and to be free from discrimination for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA, so there is no opt-out to exercise.
We do not charge for these requests and aim to respond within 30 days.
10. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including:
- All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS.
- Firebase Security Rules restrict access so that only you and your explicitly added friends or group members can read your data.
- Authentication tokens are managed by Firebase and expire automatically.
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but commit to promptly investigating and addressing any breach, and to notifying affected users and any relevant regulator where the law requires it.
11. Children's Privacy
PaySlice is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@payslice.app and we will delete it promptly.
12. The payslice.app Website
This section covers visitors to the payslice.app website, whether or not you use the app.
- We run no analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies on this site, and the site sets no cookies of its own.
- You do not need an account, and there is nothing to sign up for or submit here.
- Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes standard server-log information such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages requested in order to deliver the site and protect it from abuse, and may set a strictly necessary security cookie to do so.
- Fonts are served from the site itself rather than a third-party font network.
If you email us from a link on this site, we hold that message only for as long as it takes to deal with your query.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy in the app and on payslice.app, or by emailing you at the address associated with your account. The "last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the current version. Your continued use of PaySlice after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
