Multi-currency
This is the part most apps put behind a subscription. In PaySlice it's core, and it's free. Here's how it actually works.
Balances are kept per-currency
PaySlice never flattens your money into one number the day you add it. If you share a euro expense in Lisbon and a pound expense in London, your balance with a friend is stored as a map — something like { EUR: 142.30, GBP: 26.50 }. Each currency stays exactly as it was spent.
⭐Why this matters
Conversion happens only at settlement
When you settle up, PaySlice fetches a live exchange rate from the Frankfurter API and lets you choose which currency to pay in.
- 1
Original currency
Pay it back exactly as expensed — €142.30 stays €142.30. - 2
Your currency
See it converted to your home currency at today’s live rate (e.g. $154.54), so you know what leaves your account. - 3
Their currency
Or settle in your friend’s currency instead. PaySlice shows all three side by side and you pick.
🔑The rate is locked to the record
Historical accuracy
For balances that built up over time, PaySlice uses a weighted average of the relevant historical rates rather than a single day’s snapshot — so a long-running trip settles fairly, not at whatever today’s rate happens to be.
